Forecast using Agrif nested domains produces erratic velocities on the ocean floor

Hello every one,

I am making a forecast in the Caribbean using 1 child domain nested with Agrif 2 way option and using GFS and Mercator (1D) as boundary data in the parent domain.
The forecast results are showing an anomalous increase in velocity in the ocean bottom layer after one day, around the parent-child contact boundary.

Why does this anomaly occur right at the contact edge of the two domains? Can the forecast in CROCO using nested domains be done?

Hi,

Could you share your cppdefs and param.h files for review? Does that velocity increase occur even without AGRIF?

regards

Hello Osvando

I am sending the cppdef and param files used in my configuration. The anomaly velocities occur in the bottom layer at 3000 m depth after some hours of the model’s start. If you run the model for the domain father and son independently, the anomaly doesn’t occur, so I think Agrif has some issues.

Hi, sorry for the delay in responding. Although it is possible to use the CLIMATOLOGY and BRY parametrizations together as a lateral forcing strategy, I recommend testing AGRIF (AGRIF_2WAY) with only the FRC_BRY parametrization enabled. Give it a try and let me know if you still experience the same issue. Happy modeling!

Hi Osvaldo, many thanks for your advice. AGRIF_2WAY with only FRC_BRY was successful in my forecast running. I am happy modeling.
